A Contemplative and Exploratory weekend on the Beauty of Islam

This weekend aims to rediscover Islam and evaluate its influence on our civilization. We immerse ourselves in the phenomenon of birth and growth of an exotic new world, beginning with the geo-politics of the pre-Islamic era , the life of the Prophet Mohammad, the advent of Islam, the Quran, the Quranic world view, the Islamic civilization, the Islamic science and technology and its influence on the Western science, Arabic words in English language, Islamic literature and Islamic architecture, Islam in the world today, and concluding with the birth of the Baha’i Revelation as the next torch bearer.

The aim is to promote our understanding of Islam. and Islamic civilization. Particularly suited to Baha’is of Christian background, or Muslims close to the Baha’i Faith.

Course Description

This three-summer certificate program offers pre-youth an opportunity to create a community based on the guiding principles of unity, justice, diversity and consultation. A tight daily schedule is organized that includes formal academic study of the Baha’i teachings, creative expression through the arts, and guided interactive assembly consultation. Students form friendships with others from around the world, friendships that can last a lifetime. The program operates on the Townshend International School campus in the Czech Republic. A caring staff of educational faculty, and a team of experienced youth assistants are on duty at all times to care for the concerns of the students. The care of your children while at Townshend and their safe return to your home is our number one priority.

DATES: 4 – 8 August 2010

VENUE: Reykjaskóli school, in Hrútafjordur bay (about 170 km north of Reykjavík)

The main speaker this year is Dr. Shirin Tahzib from the U.K.

The venue is located around 2h drive to the north of Reykjavík. It‘s in the middle of the countryside, by the sea. There is a swimming pool at the school and dormitory rooms for participants to sleep.

The price for full participation with food and accommodation is estimated to around € 100.

Accommodation is mainly dormitory ‘youth hostel style’. A few family rooms are available, but tend to be quickly booked up.

Day visitors are welcome, however must register in advance (for health & safety and catering restrictions).

The school will be particularly suitable for members of community of interest.
