Challenges Facing Human Society: “Some Answered Questions”
Centers of knowledge and leaders of thought are searching for solutions for an increasing number of problems threatening our individual and collective well-being. A hundred years ago ‘Abdu’l-Baha elucidated a series of solutions to many of the problems we are facing today. The Irfan Colloquium in 2009 is continuing its 2008 program to present and discuss the principles and explanations embodied in ‘Abdu’l-Baha’s “Some Answered Questions” as well as other Baha’i Writings. The Colloquium’s program also includes presentation of systematic Baha’i studies in fundamental principles of the Baha’i beliefs, Writings of the Central Figures of the Baha’i Faith, and the interface of the Baha’i Faith with current intellectual and religious trends.

Arts in Action 2009 (Bulgaria)
Arts in Action Works
Type of Event: Arts/Summer School
Location: Southern Europe, Summer palace of Queen Marie in Balchik, Bulgaria
Dates: June 13 – 20, 2009
Last year’s Arts in Action Works was “viewed with pleasure” by the Universal House of Justice. The 2009 theme is “Integrating the Arts in a Renewed Commitment to the Five Year Plan”
‘Arts, crafts and sciences uplift the world of being and are conducive to its exaltation.’ Bahá’u'lláh
Anyone attending this year can expect to be encouraged and empowered. After last year, the Universal House of Justice shared with the Bulgarian National Spiritual Assembly: “That members of your community are devoting their time and talents to inspire and collaborate with each other to integrate the arts into their teaching efforts and the core activities is viewed with pleasure, and it is hoped that an outcome of this workshop has been the fostering of a renewed commitment by the believers to their wholehearted engagement in the provisions of the Five Year Plan.”
The 2009 Arts in Action Works offers Music with Alex Zografov, the Art and Science of Healing with Dr. Brenda Maxwell, Wood Sculpture and Calligraphy with Professor Peter Dichev, and opportunities based on the initiatives of those attending.
The 41 Regional Conferences around the world have infused a new spirit of excitement in teaching the Cause and participating in the core activities. The Arts in Action Works offers practical steps for augmenting our expression and passion for beauty, and explores our talents in the development and use of artistic tools for the promotion and implementation of the Core Activities.
Music is “a ladder for your souls, a means whereby they may be lifted up unto the realm on high”. Music is an excellent tool for the proliferation of the Word of God. The Word of God is the most effective means for empowerment.
The Art of Healing reinforces that “All true healing comes from God” and empowers us to use our health in service to the Kingdom. It accompanies and encourages us as we learn to avoid the pitfalls of a ‘lamentably defective’ system, becoming more compassionate with ourselves, and better able to focus our energies on God’s Plan.
Wood Sculpture and Calligraphy are offered as crafts, to enable us to create beautiful expressions of the Holy Writings. “Exert your utmost endeavour that ye may develop such crafts … that everyone … may benefit”.
Arts in Action Works welcomes all.
